Mrs. Carpenter’s Classroom News
Week 14 November 13-17, 2017
30 Phonogram review and test. Please spend time going over the phonograms, orally and written. All 70 phonograms should be mastered at this point. Students are held accountable for proper letter formation.
Spelling words for this week should be in your child’s blue folder in a sheet protector. The list should be kept in the blue folder at all times as we use it in class. Please review sentence homework and worksheets. There should not be a significant amount of errors if the work is being checked at home.
The story for the week is Early Explorers of Our Country in From Sea to Sea. This test will also count for a social studies grade. Vocabulary needs to be studied daily as the list is extensive. Students should be reading a minimum of 15 minutes aloud daily to an adult. Parents take this time to question your child on what they have read. Remember to record chapter books of 50 pages or more on the reading log!
Concepts for the week include adding two-digit numbers using the addition algorithm, drawing and measuring line segments to the nearest half inch, multiplying 7, and writing number sentences for equal group stories. Students should be into subtraction with mad minutes. Please spend additional time at home studying if your child is falling behind.
People Around the World is our next unit. Students need to be paying close attention when we go over worksheets. They have the opportunity to correct their work prior to handing it in for a grade, with the exception of the test. Tentative test date is December 14th.

Field trip –
The parent/s or guardians of the following students have offered to chaperone on the field trip: Yasmin, Michelle, Basmah,Jayshaun, and Shritha. If this in in error or I have left anyone out, please notify me as soon as possible. If anymore parents would like to join us, it is not too late. The more parents the better! Parents, our estimated arrival time at the zoo will be between 9:00 & 9:15 (if the buses are on time at the school). Please meet us at the front entrance to pick up your group of students. I will be bringing my cooler but I need an additional cooler brought. If any of the parents that are coming could bring one, that would be Fantastic! .I will need two parents to help unload coolers off of the bus and take them to the small building inside the zoo entrance.
- Students who bring money for the gift shop are responsible for their own money.
